Emergency services were called to the A417 Old Birdlip Hill at approximately 2:30 p.m. on October 16 following reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a tractor. Harley Pearce, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gloucestershire Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, with initial reports suggesting a possible tire blow-out may have been a contributing factor.
Harley, who ran his own successful agricultural services company, was the youngest of two children of Stuart Pearce and his ex-wife, Liz. He was described by his family as a “golden boy with an infectious smile” who had a “wonderful work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.”
In a moving tribute, the family expressed their profound grief: “Our family is truly shocked and utterly heartbroken at the loss of our cherished son and devoted brother, Harley. A soul who left an unforgettable imprint on all who knew him. This shocking tragedy will leave a huge hole in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.”
The statement continued, “With a quiet, understated strength and deep kindness, we are so proud of the young man he had become… He will always be our shining star. Rest in peace, our beautiful son and brother. You will never ever be forgotten.”
Stuart Pearce, 63, is a revered figure in English football, known for his tenacious playing style as a defender for clubs like Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Manchester City. He earned 78 caps for his country and later managed Manchester City and the England U21 team.
